Dude.

Dude.  Have you EVER had more than $50 in your pocket before?

Madeline's Dad: I couldn't have said it better myself.

"Governor Big Love?"

Seriously. Is that really necessary?

Not to mention the fact that myself--and others--are skeptical of the story in the first place.

Spiritual child abuse in Iran

Thank you to Gateway Pundit for opening my eyes this morning. I will admit, I shed a few tears looking at these pictures:

More here and here. Be warned that some of these pictures are very disturbing.

Didn't you know I would be in my father's house?

Hilarious stuff.

This one also comes right before the time he turned water into PBR at that frat party.

Thank you, Mary Katharine.

Was 9/11 really that bad? YES.

I sent this ridiculous editorial ("Was 9/11 really that bad?") around to a few friends.

Of all the responses, I thought this particular nugget from a northern New Jersey friend was worth noting, inappropriate as it is:

"Naturally it's the LA times that wrote it. Those [expletive deleted] have their heads so far up their own [expletive deleted], they don't know what's going on in the real world. Plus, nothing even freaking happened to them! Were their parents trapped in the city while buildings collapsed? Were their business partners and close friends taken from them. No."

The importance of a civilian reserve corps

Last week, President Bush proposed the formation of a civilian reserve corps to further assist the war in Iraq. I was excited then and I'm even more excited now.

Watch today's episode of Michelle Malkin's Vent for more.
"And the fact is, most of our troops aren't trained to be both mayors and warriors at the same time."
More details on this program are sure to become available in the near future. I will follow this program and keep y'all posted.

Update: The hyperlink feature is fixed! Horray!! I'll be going through the past few days' posts to add links.

TONIGHT: St. Louis University hosts "virulent critic" of Israel

A Catholic university's dollars have no business going to someone like this.

The NewsBuckit reports:
Norman Finkelstein will speak on Jan. 30 at Saint Louis University as part "Palestine Awareness Week," sponsored by the SLU chapter of Solidarity with Palestine. His speech is entitled "Israel and Palestine: roots of conflict, prospects for peace."
Sound harmless? Think again. Patrick Ishmael's post continues:
Finkelstein, a professor at DePaul and a virulent critic of the Israeli state, has written several books about the topic, perhaps most notably "The Holocaust Industry" (which is prominently displayed by event organizers' on its Facebook invitation.) To give you some perspective as to his audience, Amazon.com, based off of its customers' buying habits, suggests the following as additional reading to his book, in no particular order:
He has defended Carter's widely criticized book on Israel, saying that "Carter's real sin is that he cut to the heart of the problem" (truth be darned!) Finkelstein was also reported to have been on the Adelaide Institute's list of scheduled speakers at the Tehran Holocaust denial conference, a charge which Finkelstein denies.

His Left credentials are impeccable, with uber-Lefty Noam Chomsky saying at a Palestine event in Canada,
Not only [is Finkelstein] an old personal friend but a person who can speak with more authority on insight on these topics than anyone I can think of. So that should be a memorable occasion and I urge that you not miss the opportunity.
Pat also posted this video clip. Please watch it--and prepare to be shocked:

In a second post, Pat notes more details of today's event:
January 30 at 7:00pm
Anheuser-Busch auditorium, located at the Cook School of Business. (Google Map here.)
Parking? Metered is available, but I understand that after 7:00pm, those spots are essentially free if not actually free. You should be able to pull right up to the school.
The event is open to the public.
I've already gotten flack from organizers for merely expressing my thoughts on the event, although the organizers didn't actually dispute any of the facts I put forward. The event has also been published widely on alternative message boards, including Radicalendar, so you probably will not be seeing a strictly SLU crowd in attendance.
If you are in the St. Louis area, consider dropping by and asking this nutjob an uncomfortable question or two.

It's too bad they don't actually vote

Hotline On Call reported yesterday that the "One Million for Obama Group" is 15 percent there. It is now up to over 169,000 members.

I don't think this is anything to worry about; young people volunteer, but they don't vote.

See the Hotline piece for more on the '08 presidential Facebook groups (...that is, if you think it's worth your time to even look).

Bloggers: Hold your horses.

I'm with Captain Ed: bloggers need to stay clear of choosing one candidate this early in the game.

Buchanan event tomorrow

Tomorrow night, Pat Buchanan will be speaking to The Catholic University of America's College Republicans.

Like I said with Brownback last week, if anyone has a question they would like to suggest, please post a comment or email me at katie(dot)favazza(at)gmail(dot)com. One friend has already suggested that I ask who Buchanan wants to win the Republican nomination for presidency--and if no one else asks, I will certainly do so.

We didn't have the opportunity to ask questions at the Brownback event, but I think the nature of this speech will be very different, as Brownback was primarily concerned with the March for Life and his big announcement the day before.

Kudos to the Catholic U. CRs for two great events in January.

John Combest responds

This morning, John Combest, Missouri political guru and member of the Hotline State Affiliate program, writes of the email I received from an aide to Missouri State Senator Jeff Smith.
Did Miss Morse actually think that Katie wasn’t going to end up writing about the e-mail on her blog?
For more on the Hotline Political Network, click here.

Thanks, John!

Who knew I would add video production to my resume this semester?

If you missed Mary Katharine's HamNation on Friday, be sure to check it out. We stood in the snow ("braving global warming") to inform y'all of that important new movie.

I wasn't able to see the film myself, but I heard it will be playing at Heritage sometime in the near future. Stay tuned.

Romney to headline Missouri Lincoln Days

I had heard the rumors for some time now, but received notice this morning that Mitt Romney is the featured speaker at the Missouri Lincoln Days event next week.

I will be heading home to St. Louis for the event myself.

What is the newest trend in government waste?

Answer: Emailing amateur bloggers regarding posts from over five months ago.

Last Monday, January 22nd, at 2:45 pm, I received the following email:

Dear Miss Favazza:

Hello. My name is Stacy Morse, and I am an aide to Missouri Senator Jeff Smith.  Thank you very much for acknowledging Senator Smith's recent victory on your blog.

A few clarifications:

1) Senator Smith has never lived in Ladue. He was born and raised in Olivette.
2) He received less than 1% of his campaign donations from people living in Ladue.
3) He has never asked a student of his to work on any of his campaigns.
4) MoveOn.org did not endorse or support his campaign in any way.
5) He never told anyone that the Firefighters endorsed his campaign, although he did tell one constituent on whose door he knocked in St. Louis Hills that he had spoken to three city firefighters about his campaign, and he mentioned them by name.

We are sorry that you were waitlisted at Washington University. Best of luck at the Catholic University.

Stacy E. Morse

Legislative Assistant to

Senator Jeff Smith, 4th District

What in the world? Does anyone think this is an appropriate way to spend Missouri tax dollars? To pay a woman to respond to a five month old blog post, written by an amateur blogger and student? It seems to me that Jeff Smith has bigger fish to fry, and perhaps he could use the help of his staff during normal business hours.

If I wasn't so concerned about the fact that Miss Morse was paid to write this to me, I might have to be flattered. The "we" at the end there brings Senator Smith himself into the equation; ladies and gentlemen, an elected official reads my blog!

Oh, and one last thing. I'd like to point out that I received this on Monday, but chose to wait to post it until the weekend. I didn't think Townhall.com would appreciate me wasting my time on the clock to dignify this with a response.
