The New York Times has
an incredible interactive map online. Be sure to click through the different tabs and explore around a little.
A few highlights:
- On the "gas prices" map, it looks as though Missouri has the lowest gas prices--or at least has the most counties with the lowest gas prices. Kudos to the Show Me State.
- The county with the lowest median income in the United States is Buffalo County, S.D. This stat struck me because I spent yesterday afternoon with South Dakotans. (A friend pointed out to me that many South Dakota counties are the poorest in the country. Glance at the top of this list if you're interested.)
The map doesn't specify if diesel prices are factored into this chart. It seems to me that the poor in rural areas are spending the biggest percentage of their income on gas, plus they are more inclined to need diesel fuel.
