A few of you emailed me regarding John Edwards' "anti-Catholic" blogger, so I feel compelled to respond. (In case you've been absent for a few days, as I have, read this, this, this, and this.)
Yes, I was offended by the comments. Yes, I think Amanda Marcotte is classless.
Brace yourself for this inappropriate language. According to the blog Patterico (link via Michelle Malkin):
In that post, she continued the “conservatives just want to punish women for having sex” theme, saying:
One thing I vow here and now–you motherf***ers who want
to ban birth control will never sleep. I will f*** without making
children day in and out and you will know it and you won’t be able to
stop it. Toss and turn, you mean, jealous motherf***ers. I’m not going
to be “punished” with babies. Which makes all your efforts a failure.
Some non-procreating women escaped. So give up now. You’ll never catch
all of us. Give up now.
This is the new public face of John Edwards’s campaign blog.
So yes, I'm glad she is being fired.
But what about the modern Democratic Party's de facto anti-Catholic platform? Isn't that much more offensive? Anyone who was seriously bothered by this blogger's comments has to consider that she is no worse than an elected official whose voting record supports anti-Catholic legislation or a voting Catholic whose record reflects the same.
And where are the Catholic Democrats to respond to this? They should have been the first to call John Edwards to rethink his media strategy.
I went searching for a Catholic Democrat blogger who has written about this and couldn't find one. Perhaps this is indicative of my blog search skills and not their actual web presence. Please feel free to email me or post a comment below if you are one or know one.
I will stand corrected with joy.
